LBUSD FailuresI was wandering through LBUSD.com last night and found their sub-section, entitled: School Board Failures:Here's a quick run-down of the documents they are offering for your perusal; which, by the way, you really should take the time to read through: School board doesn't provide the necessary support for all students who require college prep curriculum (info courtesy of www.caljustice.org) Campaign Complaints Against District, compiled by the teachers at Newcomb LBUSD 11th Highest Revenue per student in L.A. CountyLBUSD 9th Worst in L.A. County in meeting State test goals District High School Drop-out rates at 40% Class Sizes Increasing in LBUSD Less than 54% of LBUSD Middle Schools meet testing targets What is wrong with the School Board? School Board's Cuts Primarily Aimed at Classrooms, $19 Million in Three Years. ( Dec. 2005) Last year, the parents in LBUSD were treated to the so-called results from an obviously rigged survey which touted the satisfaction with the job that LBUSD seems to be doing these days. While, not surprisingly, the results from the survey would lead one to believe that LBUSD is a virtual educational paradise; everybody I asked - in West Long Beach - about the survey, knew nothing about it. They had never received a survey response form. Neither did we. I'm rather certain that CAliVA didn't follow LBUSD's flawed survey methods in producing the below, as our family has already responded to a good number of surveys during AY 2005 - 2006. "According to the results from a third-party survey conducted in June, 2005, the California Virtual Academies parents are: Of the parents surveyed, 79% rate their overall experience as best or good, with another 20% rating it as fair." If that piques your interest, feel free to read further in the CAliVA FAQ.
