The Family
The Corleone Family, we're not.
We're just your normal, North American family; complete with idiosyncrasies and burlap bags full of fascinations--just like your own family. We obsess on reading, science & technology, critical thinking, psychology and education, as if you couldn't take a wild guess and get that correctly after a few tries.
The Parents:
Here's where you find out that Annie and Allan met on the Internet, in the early 90's. You know that because I just told you. (See how easy that was?) One might hypothesize that, two people who met over the Internet are flakey, near-psychotic, and horribly unhappy in their social ineptitude. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are wonderfully happy together, and successfully take the world on our own terms. We love each other, our children, and extended family without condition or reservation.
In response to the question: "Are you happy together?" I can only offer that this is the best relationship that anyone could possibly hope to have--in a thousand lifetimes.
Annie:
Annie was born in Alabama, not too long ago, and has moved here and there throughout her life. She is uncommonly intelligent as well as fluent in the language of social interaction. She currently works for LA County in a supervisorial capacity, and is much underappreciated for her abilities and quality of work. Annie is sweetness and light incarnate--skilled in the use of a broadsword.
Allan:
Allan was born in New Mexico a very long time ago, and has seen a bit of this nation himself. He's a technophile after his primary identities of husband and father. Allan tends to be a cut-through-the-crap kind of guy: "Short-n-sweet, give me the bad news first, don't try to massage my ego or affirm me." Electronics/electrical engineering/computers are his obsessions. Allan isn't Satan incarnate but, push him past his nearly infinite patience, and you'll wish he was that nice. (Everyone has at least one, little character flaw...that's just one of mine.)
Together, we responsibly parent our children in a manner that best assures their future success, happiness and social contributions to this society in which we live.
The Children:
Ah yes! Progeny-type stuff! We have six children between us, and I'll avoid the Brady Bunch references for the moment (like the spoon, there is no Alice) in describing them. Suffice it to say that they all have germs.
Sherry:
Sherry prefers to be called Mattie, and far be it for me to argue with the Doctor of the family. Sherry was born not too long ago, but certainly after Annie and I were; and is presently finished with her Doctorate. She still comes to visit now and then, an occasion that gives her younger siblings cause for fond anticipation and merriment.
Janette:
Janette prefers to be called Marie. So be it. She is completing her undergraduate studies in an institution of higher education, far-flung from home. I'm certain that there are times that she considers this to be torture, but she has done well for herself, and will continue to do so. Her arrival for the holidays has also been cause for rejoicing in the home warren.
Katie:
Katie prefers to be called something in Japanese. Since I know of nothing appropriate to call her in the mother tongue of the land of the Rising Sun, I call her Katie. I think she will learn to tolerate this with a modicum of humor and good grace. Katie is in her junior year at CAMS--the same high school her two older sisters graduated from. She will soon face her time of college/university selection, and "Fun With FAFSA" and we will help her by providing a few random numbers along with the personal information of a local family of mice.
Phillip:
Phillip is, as his father was, cursed or blessed (depends on who you ask and when) with being wedged-between 3 older sisters and 2 younger sisters. Confidentially, folks, he handles it well...and I had a brother in the mix, when I was a kid, to help me locate my sanity on those odd-occasions when I actually needed it.
Phillip has done remarkably well in school, these past two years, despite having quite a few obstacles of overcome. He has reason to be proud, and we're proud of him.
Mary:
Mary Anyanwu, Anya, likes being called Mary
Madelynn:
Madelynn Talia prefers to be known as Lia...probably because it simplifies things.
